The answer is YES!
Have you seen the movie “Divorce Corp”? It’s a film that was made to expose how our conflict-driven family law system in America is broken and has become a business where profit, not justice, is the end-game. The winners are the attorneys and the losers are the families. You can watch the trailer here on YOU TUBE:
While I don’t agree with everything in the movie, I do believe that for most people, a conflict driven trial is not the best way to end their marriage. It’s expensive. It interferes with co-parenting. It is time-consuming. It is public. There is another way. Our judges are working very had to let the public know that out of court mediation is a wonderful alternative to a litigated divorce. In mediation, the couple retains control of all the aspects of their divorce: custody, property, child support and visitation. They can get final resolution on all these issues for a fraction of the cost of a litigated divorce.
Not only can a trained family mediator help the couple to reach fair solutions to these issues, they often can help head off future issues avoiding court in the future. Mediated divorces take a fraction of the time to complete. Often your entire divorce can be mediated before you would have had your first court hearing. Don’t become a victim of the Divorce Corporation. Take your divorce and your future into your own hands and seek out attorneys who are conciliatory and resolution oriented and welcome mediation as a way to resolve your case without going to court.
